On the first day of this beautiful April month, I want to talk about some of my running plans for the month of April.
I’m not the kind of person to sign up for a lot of races and I usually just run by myself…
But April is an exception to this rule, with the biggest target only 1 week away: The Rotterdam Marathon.
I woke up this past Monday morning with a sore throat. Nothing serious, so I still went for my 40 minute run before work. Tuesday I woke up with a very bad soar throat, that progressed to pain in my neck and shoulders during the day. I decided to skip my lunch run and Body Pump at night. I came home to cook a healthy dinner and went to bed early.
Sadly, this did not prove to be very helpful and when I woke up the next morning I felt even worse… I called in sick at work and made a doctors appointment. I kept thinking to myself that although it is bad timing, better now than next week.
I had a respiratory infection and the doctors advice was eat healthy and rest rest rest!
So that’s what I did, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I ate lots of greens, drank beet juice and ate 3 pieces of fruit a day (and the occasional cookie of course).
I stayed in bed all day and slept when I felt tired. To relax my sore muscles I took a nice hot bath which helped a lot.
On Saturday I felt good enough to run a nice and slow 40 minutes… It felt so good after a couple days of not exercising and feeling tired and beaten down. It helped that it was a gorgeous spring day!
One more week until the marathon. Will take it easy for the next week, lots of sleep and not too much running and hopefully I’ll be ready!
Two weeks later, on April 22nd I have my next running goal, the Antwerp 10 miles. This is one of the most famous runs of Antwerp and is on the same day as the Antwerp marathon. I’m not setting a time goal for this, as I’m not sure how I’ll be feeling so short after the marathon… But my friend Tine is running it as well, so it should be fun!
The weekend after that I signed up for ‘Sunday Runday’. Two days filled with running, talking about running, workshops, eating, … One of the organizers is my running friend Lien. I’m very excited to meet a ton of other runners and learn a lot. And we’ll be staying the night at a nice hotel, which is a benefit too!
